He is very chivalrous and disciplined boy, but underneath his calm, composed demeanor he feels emotions very strongly. When his discipline slips up, he can become quite savage and unrelenting. At times it seems he has an over-grown sense of duty. Senae calls him "brother" and he calls her "sister".
Mamoto was born and acted as Protector about 400 years before Sakura Tree takes place. In that time, he was well-respected and very close to the Governor's family, his daughter Sakura in particular.
He was framed for the bewitching and murder of the Governor of Sentina, and Sakura personally exiled him from Sentina. This act marks the beginning of the decline of the religion in Sentina and thus, the rest of the country. He was driven out into the surrounding forest, where he lived protecting the city from the sidelines for 400 years, preserved by his extreme sense of obligation, loyalty and ties to the city. It is literally impossible for him to enter the city unless he is pardoned by the Governor of Sentina.
His greatest fear is that he will give in to corruption and become like Matsuro.
Senae
Mamoto's wolf companion. Only Protectors can hear their wolves speak. Senae is generally of a more positive disposition than Mamoto, but is also more quick to react than him. She doesn't think many things through.

I LOVE this character's clothing design! I remember when you were first coming up with this story. This was like your first major one wasn't it?? I remember when we were working together on the similar-but-different-in-one-important-way comparison between Mamoto and Matsuro. Their names even sound a bit similar.
