He's the main antagonist in ST. He is also a former Protector of Sentina, one of the longest-lived and most talented ones in history, and was in the same situation as Mamoto: banished from Sentina for killing the Governor. Except he actually did kill the Governor. In the past, he was, like many protectors before him, both revered and resented/hated/feared at the same time. Matsuro was actually a remarkably sensitive boy, and all these expectations and attentions focused on him really got to him, making him simultaneously hate himself and feel over-inflated self-importance, just like all the people around him felt about him. The city guard was especially suspicious of him and how such a young boy could be such a cold and proficient killer, even though he was supposed to be leading them; it took just one violent incident to push him over the edge. This was years and years before Mamoto even, which means Matsuro is super-old. Just as Mamoto's body was preserved by loyalty, Matsuro's was preserved by anger and hate for 900 years, resulting in a man twisted beyond belief. He roamed the world until he found Leara, and his plans for revenge could be realized.
