Steven is an attention hog. Steven is the center of all the action. Steven is everything.
At least, that's how Steven thinks.
Steven is basically playing a "game" with his/her life, where no one can find out his/her true gender ("Steven" is an assumed name, he/she wasn't born "Steven"). The game started sometime before he/she transferred to Swanson-Windhill Academy at the beginning of 10th grade on an academic scholarship. Steven has excellent grades in spite of all his/her antics.
Steven's mission in life is to have fun and "make stuff more awesome". He/she likes having a lot of equally strange friends to cause trouble with. He/she is particularly drawn to Taku, it seems, and is very talented at thwarting his every attempt to reveal his/her gender.
He/she is the self-proclaimed President of Everything and School DDR-Master, and he/she later starts an after-school group with the aim of sweeping the Annual Swanson-Windhill Schoolwide Festival Talent Show with the Best Dance Number Ever.
As one might expect, this isn’t all there is to Steven. The closest person to him/her (besides Stacy) is Taku, and even he can barely glean anything about Steven’s true personality. Steven is just that good.
He/She lives off-campus with his/her older brother, Stacy. His/her parents are both deceased.
