Daichi is basically very repressed about everything, especially his sexuality. He decided at a young age that he would never tell anyone, and that he would just live with it. Growing up in a backwater agricultural town was not kind to him. Bullied regularly and surrounded by closed minds, he saw no good reasons to ever come out of the closet, so he has resigned himself already to a life of suppressed feelings. He especially avoids other boys because it puts stress on him. His most dire fear is that he'll be abandoned, so he prefers to keep to himself instead of let that happen. He is quick to fault himself and slow to blame others.
He enjoyed climbing trees and generally romping around outside when he was young, but an accident with a tree sort of cut that short. He still likes to sit outside by the creek behind his house, though. He is also good with computers, and is often called out of class to help with technical problems around the school. He gets much more energetic when in familiar territory, i.e. video games and such things.
He meets Suzu, who talks very openly to him in a friendly way that he's never really experienced before, and Suzu basically forcibly becomes his friend. Suzu is very different than anyone Daichi has met, and meeting him does a lot of good for Daichi as he begins to believe that he isn't an entirely worthless person. Daichi very quickly develops feelings for him. A recurring point of anxiety for him is whether it’s right to feel so strongly about a person if you haven't known them for very long.
Any sort of romantic gesture makes him shy, especially when done in public. He doesn't express himself very well, so what some may take as simple bashfulness might really be discomfort. Because he usually suppresses these types of things, they build up and burst out in sudden and unexpected ways.


Daichi’s parents
Both Daichi’s parents are teachers. His mother is bubbly and energetic, and they are very close. She loves to be moving around, always occupied with something, sometimes driving to the farther away supermarket just so she can be out and about longer. She and Daichi enjoy exploring new culinary territory together. He is less close to his father, mostly because the two are very similar in personality (namely, shy and awkward). He opens up more when imparting knowledge, making him almost a better teacher than friend. However, Daichi’s mom balances him out in the same complimentary way that Suzu balances Daichi.
