In a small, secluded town by the water, nestled between hills, cut off from everything, a strange thing has happened. An alien object has landed, crash-landed, into a local park; this object is a girl, small and mysterious, and seemingly broken. She, Sissumi, was sent to Earth to initiate a takeover, but something went wrong and now she can’t find it in her to continue the mission. She is taken in by a girl named Lily and her mother, who are shocked to find themselves soon besieged by alien attack. The alien organization that built Sissumi has sent more machines of destruction to erase her, and this remote town which felt not the passage of time is suddenly a war zone.
About THEM
THEM is the name of the organization that created Sissumi, though they're more an entire society than just an organization. They appear to be completely human, save for the tail they are equipped with at birth. THEM basically has dictator-like control of this society of people, controlling every aspect of their lives even to the extent that if one person develops a traitorous mind, their tail splits into two, exposing them to everyone (and they get arrested/erased soon after). THEM is characterized by extreme pride. They are so embarrassed and shamed that something as important as Sissumi has turned against them that they send every weapon they have to erase her, rather than recapture and reprogram her.
The only things we learn about THEM come from Tsuyo, who belonged to THEM. It is hinted that THEM has been involved in human life for a very long time.
